What can you say about SIA’s (Snow Sports Industry of America) annual trade show? It’s in Denver, it’s kind of loud, people always look really tired, and for some reason there was no snow outside the convention center which put a real damper on the whole snow sports thing. Some other websites take the moral high road and make videos that have companies marketing people talking about tech and what’s new, we just said fuck it and got to the facts. Topics include the social campaign of #baldlivesmatter, fear blogging, the spin off of Sons of Agnarchy coming this fall Sons of Cabo Wabo, pro model roller blades, and other important snowboarding related topics. Watch the video and see how the people react. Filming and Editing: Ben West

It’s Still Business As Usual At K2 and Ride

If you follow the corporate side of snowboarding and are intrigued by which companies are owned by whom then you might want to take notice that Jarden the parent company of K2 and Ride is being acquired by Newell Rubbermaid. It’s just another one of the similar business things that happens in snowboarding when you have conglomerates. Look at what is going on with Quiksilver, Billabong, and DC. So while the shit storm of butt-hurt is going to descend from the ether of the Internet, you need to sit back and relax. There’s no reason to get caught up with jaded ex snow media types, anonymous pro-core keyboard heroes, or fucking idiots. As we reached out to numerous sources that work for the snow brands we love (or hate depending on who you talk to) it’s still business as usual. The best way to sum it up is to just wait and see if they have any demands once everything is finalized. In my opinion though, this isn’t even a blip on the radar of snowboarding. For now though, there’s still some great products on the market from K2 and Ride and if you like them, buy them.

Of course the FIS (International Ski Federation) was all about this as it fits with their need for more ratings. So it’s more blah blah blah ‘youth marketing’ blah blah blah ‘foster creativity and progression’ blah blah blah. This of course stokes the coals of the anti-Olympic snowboarding agenda further adding more fuel to the flames. It would be easy to write yet another article on the whole Olympic mess or even try to open another debate on the topic. The problem is the arguments start to become the same over and over and nothing changes. It’s time to just acknowledge that there’s a portion of the snowboarding populace that doesn’t give a fuck about the Olympics. So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way what can actually be said about Big Air coming to The Olympics? Well for guys it’s going to be a battle of quad corks or who has the balls to put their life on the line and go for the quintuple cork. Seriously, this will be the event that causes …
